This old man is a chinese immigrant who came to Singapore at the age of 11 when his parents passed away. The humble origin of this small bookshop was in Chin Swee Road, Singapore, serving the neighbourhood with Chinese comic books and stationery.

He will be awake by 6.30am to read the 联合早报. Although he reads the papers, he is unable to speak and communicate in mandarin but in hokkien.

This is his office pantry displaying cooking utensils which were used for many years.

His love for chinese tea, Tie Guan Yin, from his hometown, Fujian, Anxi

He washes the utensils to be used for breakfast, keeping away the disposable spoons and chopsticks.

He is a man of few words and never claimed credit for what he had done.

His breakfast, a packet of Fried Carrot Cake and Chinese Tea.

Storage room for textbooks and stationery.

‘ It’s time for a haircut’ he said. He usually goes for his monthly haircut few blocks away. Due to his poor memory, there were times he went for a 2nd haircut the following day.

Chess pieces and board games for sale.

A corner of his shop, displaying items on the wooden shelves made by him which lasted for years. Till now, almost every secondary school student is using the mathematics textbook published by him.

As his sense of hearing starts to deteriorate, we have to go close and speak louder to him.

Today, this 94 years old man is still working , also a father of 11 children, 30 grandchildren and 12 great grand children. This old man is my Grandfather, someone whom we hold great respect for.
